Position Summary:
Under general supervision and following established protocols, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals and operating imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic nuclear medicine images. The role covers PET/CT, General Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, and Rb82 Cardiac PET, with candidates considered who specialize in one subspecialty area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assay, prepare, record, and administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and accurately.
- Operate SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET/CT, and radiation detection equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Perform attenuation correction CT imaging as ordered in conjunction with nuclear imaging exams.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately, providing clear explanations and addressing physical and emotional needs while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with medical, nursing, and departmental staff.
- Calibrate and verify imaging equipment daily; perform quality control and report malfunctions promptly.
- Complete required documentation and use RIS for patient exam management.
- Stay current with developments in nuclear medicine imaging techniques through continuing education and review of technical literature.
- Supervise and mentor Nuclear Medicine Technology students in the department.
- Prepare rooms and supplies for daily use, ensuring proper stocking and organization.
- Manage radioactive waste and contamination according to safety protocols.
- Adhere to radiation safety and ALARA principles to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
- Participate in research, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required by the department.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
- Valid Massachusetts license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- Registered or eligible for certification by ARRT-N or NMTCB; must obtain and maintain certification within one year of employment.
- Proficient in Epic applications or willingness to learn.
