The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in supporting surgical teams during complex cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, ensuring proper handling of instruments and supplies, and assisting surgeons and nurses throughout operative cases. The ideal candidate has specialized experience in CVOR procedures and demonstrates a commitment to excellence, patient safety, and teamwork in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are properly sterilized and arranged.
- Assist the surgical team by anticipating the needs of the surgeon during procedures.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and sterile field management.
- Operate and maintain specialized CVOR equipment in accordance with established standards.
- Ensure accurate instrument and sponge counts before, during, and after procedures.
- Handle surgical specimens appropriately and ensure accurate labeling.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other team members to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
- Participate in pre- and post-operative room setup, breakdown, and equipment cleaning.
- Maintain current knowledge of CVOR procedures, surgical instruments, and evolving technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience required.
- Licensure/Registration: Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
- Certifications: NBSTA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) certification required.

- Experience assisting in complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgical cases.
- Proficiency in the setup and operation of CVOR-specific surgical equipment.
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
