Job Summary
Perform overnight sleep studies and collect diagnostic data using polysomnography and other sleep-related tests
Monitor patient well-being and ensure proper functioning of equipment during sleep studies
Analyze results and prepare comprehensive reports for physician review
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for sleep studies by explaining procedures and setting up monitoring equipment
- Monitor and record sleep patterns and physiological responses throughout the night
- Identify and respond to equipment malfunctions or patient distress
- Document observed events, including respiratory events, cardiac rhythms, and limb movements
- Assist with data scoring and analysis following clinical protocols
- Maintain accurate records and ensure data security and confidentiality
- Clean and maintain equipment and sleep lab environment
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to optimize patient care
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a recognized sleep technology training program or relevant clinical experience
- Knowledge of polysomnographic technology and sleep disorders
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently during overnight shifts
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and patient care skills
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field
- Prior experience in a sleep lab or similar clinical environment
Certifications
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent preferred
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
