Job Summary
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer is responsible for performing comprehensive obstetric ultrasounds and specialized imaging studies to support high-risk pregnancy care. This role ensures accurate diagnostic imaging, collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary teams, and provides compassionate patient care in a sensitive clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive obstetric ultrasounds, including:
- First trimester scans (NT, early anatomy).
- Detailed second- and third-trimester anatomy surveys.
- Growth assessments and biophysical profiles (BPP).
- Multiple gestation evaluations.
- Cervical length assessments.
- Placental evaluation/PAS.
- Doppler studies (umbilical artery, MCA, ductus venosus).
- Evaluate complex maternal and fetal conditions and identify abnormal findings.
- Support fetal therapy and invasive procedures (e.g., amniocentesis, CVS, PUBS, selective fetal reduction performed by physicians).
- Provide compassionate care to patients facing high-risk pregnancies, maintaining privacy and emotional sensitivity.
- Acquire high-quality diagnostic images and complete accurate measurements.
- Enter exam data into EMR/PACS systems and ensure compliance with accreditation standards (AIUM/ACR).
- Collaborate with MFM physicians, radiologists, nurses, genetic counselors, and support staff.
- Participate in multidisciplinary care coordination.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
- ARDMS certification in Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN).
- Strong knowledge of maternal-fetal imaging protocols and high-risk pregnancy care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Prior experience in maternal-fetal medicine or high-risk obstetric imaging.
- Familiarity with advanced Doppler techniques and specialized fetal imaging.
- Experience working in accredited AIUM/ACR facilities.
Certifications (if any)
- ARDMS certification in OB/GYN (required).
- Additional ARDMS specialty certifications (e.g., Fetal Echocardiography) preferred.
