Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Mother/Baby provides high-quality, family-centered nursing care to postpartum mothers and their newborns. This role focuses on promoting maternal and newborn health, education, and safety through the application of professional nursing standards and evidence-based practices. The RN collaborates with families and interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive and compassionate care throughout the postpartum experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborns, including assessment, monitoring, and documentation.
- Support and educate new mothers on breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with families and healthcare providers.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to policies.
- Respond promptly to any changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records using the EPIC electronic health record system.
- Promote a safe, supportive, and healing environment for both patients and families.
- Collaborate with physicians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Adhere to all hospital protocols, infection control procedures, and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Rhode Island.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of recent Mother/Baby or postpartum nursing experience.
- Proficiency in EPIC electronic health record system.
- Flexibility to work 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule — days, evenings, or nights (schedule provided in advance).
- COVID-19 vaccination required.
- Proficiency in the English language (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
- Experience in labor and delivery or neonatal care.
- Strong interpersonal, patient education, and communication skills.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required.
