  • Job Summary
    The Medical Surgical Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients diagnosed with cancer and related medical conditions. The RN assesses patient needs, administers treatments, manages symptoms, and collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the treatment and recovery process.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for oncology and medical-surgical patients.
    2. Administer medications, chemotherapy-related supportive treatments, blood products, and intravenous therapies as prescribed.
    3. Monitor patient conditions and identify complications related to cancer, treatment regimens, or underlying medical conditions.
    4. Provide symptom management, pain control, and supportive care interventions.
    5. Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and self-care strategies.
    6. Collaborate with oncologists, physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
    7. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    8. Monitor laboratory results and communicate significant findings to the healthcare team.
    9. Ensure compliance with patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.
    10. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and patient advocacy activities.
    Required Qualifications
    1. Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
    2. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
    3. Minimum of one (1) year of Oncology, Medical-Surgical, or Acute Care nursing experience preferred.
    4. Strong knowledge of oncology nursing practices, symptom management, and patient care principles.
    5. Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
    6. Ability to provide compassionate care to patients with complex medical conditions.
    7. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
    2. Previous experience in Medical-Surgical Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, or Cancer Care settings.
    3. Experience caring for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiation therapy.
    4. Knowledge of evidence-based oncology nursing practices and supportive care management.
    Certifications
    1. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
    2. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) Certification, preferred.
    3. Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certification, preferred.
