  • Job Summary
    The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing surgical instruments and medical equipment used throughout the hospital. This role ensures that all instruments and supplies are properly processed and available to support safe and efficient patient care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of infection control and sterilization practices.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Decontaminate, clean, inspect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established protocols and manufacturer instructions.
    2. Assemble instrument trays and surgical sets accurately and efficiently for use in operating rooms and other departments.
    3. Operate and maintain sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, washers) in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
    4. Perform quality assurance checks to ensure instrument functionality, cleanliness, and completeness prior to distribution.
    5. Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, biological indicators, and equipment maintenance.
    6. Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to prioritize instrument needs and respond promptly to urgent or emergent requests.
    7. Adhere to infection prevention policies and all applicable safety standards.
    8. Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering or restocking of sterile supplies and equipment.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (Required).
    2. Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in sterile processing, central service, or a related healthcare setting (Required).
    3. Knowledge: Understanding of sterilization principles, infection control standards, and handling of surgical instruments.
    4. Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work efficiently under pressure, and excellent communication and teamwork skills.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Two (2) or more years of experience in a hospital sterile processing or surgical services environment.
    2. Familiarity with computerized instrument tracking systems.

    Certifications
    1. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) – Required or obtained within 12 months of hire.
    2. Basic Life Support (BLS) – Preferred.
