Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical/Nephrology provides direct nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Telemetry units with moderate to high acuity conditions. This role involves continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythms, performing comprehensive patient assessments, administering medications and therapies, and collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in PCU and Telemetry units.
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and patient status using telemetry systems.
- Promptly recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Implement evidence-based nursing interventions.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and blood products in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient records.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions.
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection control, and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current RN license in State.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years
- Proficiency in cardiac telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience in nephrology or progressive care/step-down units.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred.
- Specialty certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing or Nephrology – preferred.
