Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team. The RN will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals recovering from surgical and procedural anesthesia. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to respond quickly in critical situations, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort during the recovery phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia in accordance with established nursing standards and protocols.
- Monitor and assess patients’ vital signs, airway, consciousness, and pain levels, ensuring safe and effective recovery.
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed, including pain management and antiemetic therapies.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition, implementing appropriate interventions and notifying anesthesia or surgical teams as needed.
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records (EMRs) and recovery documentation.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and families during the recovery and discharge process.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards, safety protocols, and hospital policies.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of PACU equipment, monitors, and emergency supplies.
- Participate in ongoing training, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance professional practice.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment or a compact state license.
- Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience; prior PACU, critical care, or ICU experience strongly preferred.
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment.
- Proficient in electronic charting and patient documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Experience in ambulatory surgery centers or acute care hospitals.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred (depending on patient population)
