  • Job Summary  
    The Cardiac Device Technician supports the Client Center’s Cardiac Arrhythmia Service, one of New England’s leading programs for diagnosing and treating cardiac arrhythmias. Under limited supervision, the technician performs technical and patient care duties in both inpatient and outpatient cardiac device clinics, including interrogation, programming, and monitoring of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and implantable loop recorders (ILRs). The role also supports remote monitoring programs, patient education, and device-related research.

    Key Responsibilities
    Device Management
    1. Perform interrogation, enrollment, and programming of pacemakers, ICDs, and loop recorders.
    2. Monitor devices through in-person and remote systems.
    3. Recognize device abnormalities, alerts, and malfunctions (e.g., lead issues, end-of-service notifications).
    4. Notify cardiologists or advanced practice providers and coordinate patient follow-up.

    Patient Care & Coordination
    1. Collaborate with cardiologists, advanced practice clinicians, and care teams to ensure timely patient care.
    2. Educate patients and families on device function, monitoring, and follow-up scheduling.
    3. Coordinate communication with referring physicians and providers.

    Documentation & Systems
    1. Maintain accurate documentation in CIED reporting systems and EPIC EMR.
    2. Support billing documentation and reporting requirements.
    3. Participate in device recall management and monitoring processes.

    Administrative & Team Support
    1. Serve as a resource to staff regarding cardiac device management.
    2. Provide cross-coverage for other device clinic staff as needed.
    3. Act as a clinical liaison for administrative teams.
    4. Attend departmental meetings and participate in ongoing training.
    5. Support clinical research and trials involving cardiac device therapy.

    Qualifications
    1. Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of related experience, OR
    2. Associate’s degree or completion of a formal CIED training program with at least 1 year of device clinic or industry experience.

    Certifications
    1. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/BLS) – required.

    Preferred Knowledge
    1. Advanced ECG interpretation.
    2. Experience with EPIC EMR.

    Skills & Competencies
    1. Knowledge of cardiac device monitoring systems.
    2. Understanding of healthcare billing and managed care processes.
    3. Strong patient education and communication skills.
    4. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
    5. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
    6. Accuracy and attention to detail in documentation.

    Work Environment
    1. Outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and office settings.
    2. Prolonged standing/walking and interaction with monitoring equipment.
    3. Occasional lifting of equipment or assisting patients.
    4. May be required to work in satellite or affiliate clinics and support remote monitoring programs.
