Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Respiratory Therapist to join our Operating Room team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing specialized respiratory care and support during surgical procedures. This role requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and nursing staff to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes in the perioperative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist anesthesia providers with airway management during surgical procedures, including intubation and extubation.
- Set up, operate, and monitor ventilators and other respiratory equipment in the operating room.
- Monitor patients’ respiratory status before, during, and after surgery.
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling, analysis, and interpretation as needed.
- Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, ensuring it is clean, functional, and ready for use.
- Collaborate with surgical and anesthesia teams to anticipate and respond to patient needs.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and equipment settings accurately in the medical record.
- Support emergency airway management and respond to critical events in the OR as needed.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols in the operating room environment.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
- Current and active Respiratory Therapist license (RRT or CRT) in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a Respiratory Therapist, preferably in an acute care or surgical setting.
- Proficiency in ventilator management and respiratory monitoring techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
- Experience in a perioperative or critical care environment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (if applicable).
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Preferred (based on patient population)
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) – Preferred
