Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – PCU provides direct patient care to step-down patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and medical-surgical conditions. This role involves continuous monitoring of telemetry, administering medications and therapies, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring safe, high-quality patient outcomes. Nurses in this unit also float to medical-surgical units as needed, maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with hospital standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to PCU/step-down patients with complex conditions
- Monitor cardiac telemetry, vital signs, and patient responses to treatment
- Administer medications and therapies including IV therapies and blood products
- Assess patient conditions and promptly report changes to the healthcare team
- Collaborate with physicians and teams to develop and implement patient care plans
- Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
- Float to medical-surgical units as needed and manage appropriate patient assignments
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation ensuring compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards
- Respond to rapid patient changes and participate in emergency interventions
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Current NIHSS certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in PCU or step-down units
- Strong background in cardiac and respiratory care
