Job Summary
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse provides high-acuity patient care to individuals with life-threatening conditions. This role requires advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to respond quickly to rapid changes in patient status. The RN collaborates with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to deliver evidence-based, compassionate care in a fast-paced critical care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments and deliver direct, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill patients
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, and cardiac rhythms
- Administer medications, infusions, and complex therapies in accordance with physician orders
- Operate and troubleshoot critical care equipment including ventilators, pumps, and invasive monitoring devices
- Respond to emergencies and participate in resuscitation and rapid response situations
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and adjust care plans
- Provide patient and family education regarding treatment, procedures, and recovery expectations
- Document all assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately in the EMR
- Maintain adherence to hospital policies, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements
- Support a safe, therapeutic environment and uphold high standards of critical care nursing practice
Required Qualifications
- 1 year of recent full-time equivalent ICU experience within the last 3 years
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where care is provided
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field
- 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- CCRN certification preferred
- Experience with dialysis, SLED, or equivalent modalities
