Job Summary
The Physical Therapy Assistant supports licensed physical therapists in implementing treatment plans to help patients improve strength, mobility, and flexibility. This role assists patients with therapeutic exercises, walking, transfers, and the use of assistive devices, while monitoring progress and reporting changes to the supervising therapist.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist physical therapists in carrying out treatment plans.
- Provide therapeutic exercises to improve patient strength, mobility, and flexibility.
- Support patients with walking, transfers, and use of assistive devices (walker, cane, crutches).
- Monitor and document patient progress, reporting changes to the physical therapist.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during therapy sessions.
- Educate patients on proper exercise techniques and use of equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of physical therapy techniques and rehabilitation practices.
- Experience assisting with patient mobility and transfers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow treatment plans and instructions from licensed therapists.
- Attention to detail in documenting patient progress.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assisting or related field.
- Prior experience in a rehabilitation or clinical setting.
- Familiarity with pain management techniques and therapeutic exercise planning.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Certifications
- State licensure or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant (as required by jurisdiction).
Work Environment
- Clinical or rehabilitation setting.

- Requires physical stamina to assist patients with mobility and transfers.
