Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in Labor and Delivery provides comprehensive care to patients during childbirth, ensuring safe delivery and postpartum recovery. The RN collaborates with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery
- Monitor maternal and fetal health, including vital signs and fetal heart tones
- Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed
- Assist physicians and midwives during labor and delivery procedures
- Educate patients and families on childbirth, postpartum care, and newborn care
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
- Respond to obstetric emergencies and provide appropriate interventions
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Support patients emotionally and physically throughout the childbirth process
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Current RN License (state-specific or compact license)
- Current BLS certification
- ACLS certification (American Heart Association)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery or related unit
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience with electronic fetal monitoring
- Prior experience in high-risk obstetrics
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification preferred
