Job Summary
The Environmental Services Attendant is responsible for maintaining hospital standards of sanitation, cleanliness, and overall aesthetic appearance. This role involves performing a variety of housekeeping tasks, including cleaning fixtures and fittings, disinfecting surfaces, preparing patient sleep areas, and handling waste and linen removal, all while adhering to infection control protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Arrive prepared for work in designated uniform and verify assignments with supervisor.
- Ensure availability of required supplies and check equipment for safe operation.
- Maintain assigned areas to hospital cleanliness standards, following infection control protocols.
- Clean soft floor surfaces using dry and wet methods, including vacuuming and spot cleaning.
- Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, and soaps.
- Damp dust and disinfect environmental surfaces, fixtures, and fittings.
- Clean unit-based equipment (monitors, TVs, patient control panels, cribs, beds, etc.).
- Empty, clean, and reline waste and linen containers according to protocol.
- Strip and prepare patient sleep surfaces with clean linens per hospital standards.
- Follow notification protocols for discharges and special cleaning requests.
- Operate manual and electrical cleaning equipment safely (vacuum cleaners, buffers, burnishers, etc.).
- Use hospital-approved cleaning agents in compliance with safety protocols.
- Report maintenance needs or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Move and return furniture to facilitate cleaning tasks.
- Complete assigned work within scheduled shift and ensure equipment is left clean and operable.
- Accurately record start and end times using the hospital’s Time and Attendance System.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to safely and effectively operate industrial cleaning and waste disposal equipment.
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Ability to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
- Basic math skills for interpreting chemical ratios and measurements.
- Reading skills to follow written instructions and safety signage.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules depending on assignment.
