Job Summary
The Mental Health Counselor provides therapeutic support and counseling services to patients within a psychiatric health center. This role is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions to promote emotional well-being, recovery, and resilience. The counselor collaborates with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide counseling and psychotherapy to patients with psychiatric and emotional disorders.
- Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Document patient interactions and maintain accurate clinical records.
- Educate patients and families on coping strategies, treatment options, and community resources.
- Adhere to ethical standards, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
- Licensed or license-eligible as a Mental Health Counselor (state requirements apply).
- Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques and psychiatric care practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Certifications
- State licensure as a Mental Health Counselor or equivalent.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
