Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled CVOR Technologist to support cardiovascular surgical procedures by preparing operating rooms, maintaining sterile environments, handling specialized surgical instruments, and assisting the surgical team throughout complex cardiac and vascular procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of cardiovascular surgical techniques, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the cardiovascular operating room for surgical procedures.
- Ensure all surgical instruments, supplies, implants, and equipment are available, sterile, and functioning properly.
- Assist surgeons during cardiovascular and thoracic procedures by passing instruments and anticipating procedural needs.
- Establish and maintain sterile fields throughout surgical cases.
- Perform surgical counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and supplies according to policy.
- Assist with patient positioning, surgical site preparation, and room setup.
- Operate and troubleshoot specialized cardiovascular surgical equipment.
- Handle specimens appropriately and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
- Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of CVOR or operating room experience, preferably in cardiovascular surgery.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, aseptic practices, and surgical instrumentation.
- Experience supporting cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.
- Excellent communication, organization, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to remain calm and focused during complex surgical cases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a dedicated Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR).
- Experience with open-heart procedures, vascular surgery, and endoscopic vessel harvesting.
- Familiarity with advanced cardiovascular surgical equipment and technologies.
- Experience with electronic documentation systems and operating room software.
Certifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or required based on facility requirements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Additional cardiovascular or perioperative certifications preferred.
