JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse – Radiation Oncology provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy. This role includes patient assessment, education, coordination of care, and management of treatment-related side effects in collaboration with the oncology team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor patients before, during, and after radiation therapy
- Educate patients and families about radiation procedures, side effects, and self-care
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Document patient care accurately and timely
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists and other healthcare professionals
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and infection control standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in oncology or radiation therapy
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Radiation Oncology Nursing certification
- Experience in patient education and oncology research
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
