Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments. This role requires proficiency in operating processing equipment and a thorough understanding of sterilization methods. The technician ensures all instruments are cleaned, functional, and sterile, following best practices and departmental guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Decontamination: Decontaminate surgical instruments according to manufacturer’s instructions or as advised by the department supervisor or manager.
- Equipment Operation: Operate decontamination and sterilization equipment in compliance with safety and manufacturer guidelines.
- Inspection: Inspect instruments post-decontamination to ensure cleanliness, integrity, functionality, and proper documentation.
- Tray Assembly: Assemble surgical trays ensuring sterility and easy accessibility for the end user, utilizing count sheets for accuracy.
- Packaging & Sterilization: Package instrument sets according to manufacturer guidelines, ensuring packaging is intact and undamaged during sterilization.
- Sterilizer Operation: Load and unload sterilizers following proper procedures to prevent damage to packaged items. Run daily sterilizer tests and monitor sterilizer conditions, ensuring biological monitoring of every load.
- Documentation & Tracking: Document sterilization load contents, tracking system interface, and sterilization cycle details. Record all relevant information for compliance and accuracy.
- Storage: Ensure sterilized items are properly stored in accordance with tracking system storage locations and department standards.
- Department Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of the department and all processing equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and infection control standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Experience: 2 years of experience in Central Sterile Processing Department (CSPD) or related field preferred.
- Travel experience required.

- CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) OR
- CBSPDT (Certified Biomedical Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician)
