Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Pediatric Step-Down Unit provides compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to pediatric patients who require close monitoring and intermediate-level care. The RN works collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in a supportive, family-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients requiring continuous assessment and monitoring.
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for each patient.
- Monitor vital signs, recognize changes in patient condition, and respond promptly to emergencies.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate care and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent required (may consider ADN with relevant experience).
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent acute care experience, preferably in pediatric or step-down settings.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) or Pediatric Step-Down Unit.
- National specialty certification in pediatric nursing (e.g., CPN).
- Experience with electronic health record systems such as Epic or Cerner.
Certifications
- Active RN license (state-specific).
- BLS and PALS required.
- Additional pediatric nursing certification preferred.
