Job Summary
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures using radiopharmaceuticals to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role is responsible for preparing and administering radioactive materials, operating imaging equipment, and ensuring patient safety while delivering accurate and timely results. The technologist collaborates with physicians and healthcare teams to provide high-quality patient care and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients for diagnostic imaging.
- Operate nuclear medicine equipment to capture images of organ function and structure.
- Review laboratory and imaging findings to ensure accuracy of results.
- Supervise clinical studies and research projects as assigned.
- Instruct staff on the operation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, computer-controlled analyzers).
- Develop, standardize, evaluate, and modify procedures and techniques for specimen analysis and medical laboratory experiments.
- Establish and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure accuracy of laboratory and imaging results.
- Supervise, train, and direct laboratory assistants, technicians, and technologists engaged in nuclear medicine testing.
- Maintain compliance with hospital, departmental, and regulatory agency policies.
- Document patient procedures and maintain accurate records in electronic medical systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Technology, or related field.
- 5–7 years of experience in nuclear medicine or medical laboratory testing.
- Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT or ARRT-N).
- State licensure (where applicable).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising laboratory staff and clinical research projects.
- Familiarity with advanced nuclear medicine instrumentation and quality assurance programs.
- Continuing education in nuclear medicine or related specialties.
