Job Summary
The Transportation Technician is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional delivery and pickup of sterilized surgical instruments between Instrumentum facilities and customer locations. Serving as the face of the company in the field, this role is critical to maintaining service standards, customer satisfaction, and operational reliability. The position requires precision, professionalism, and a strong commitment to safety and exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles (van or truck) to transport instrument supply carts and totes along assigned routes.
- Follow GPS navigation and routing systems to ensure efficient deliveries and pickups.
- Load and unload instruments and products with care to maintain integrity.
- Obtain signatures on Proof of Delivery (POD) and other required documents.
- Maintain a courteous, professional demeanor with customers as Instrumentum’s on-site representative.
- Report customer feedback and issues promptly to site management.
- Perform daily vehicle safety inspections and basic maintenance checks.
- Adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company driving standards.
- Track and log deliveries, fuel usage, and maintenance needs accurately.
- Comply with all safety, infection prevention, and PPE requirements when handling biohazardous items.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness according to company standards.
- Participate in internal meetings and suggest process improvements.
- Assist with other logistics or operational tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Strong navigation and route optimization skills using GPS and routing software.
- Ability to push or pull loaded carts weighing up to 400 lbs.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and responsibility.
- Ability to follow procedures, complete documentation accurately, and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and infection control procedures.
- Willingness to wear PPE and comply with customer site credentialing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Previous customer service or client-facing experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certifications (if any)
- Valid Class C driver’s license.
- Clean driving record (MVR); subject to periodic DMV and/or DOT checks.
