Job Summary
The Patient Account Representative is responsible for managing patient billing inquiries, insurance claims follow-up, and account adjustments. This role ensures accurate account records, compliance with billing regulations, and delivery of excellent customer service to patients and insurance carriers.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up on claims including unpaid insurance, commercial, and self-pay accounts.
- Communicate with carriers regarding outstanding claims and reimbursements.
- Process claim adjustments and refunds when appropriate.
- Handle patient inquiries via phone calls and correspondence.
- Maintain account records with accuracy and updates.
- Review billing regulations, contracts, and claim requirements.
- Provide customer service to resolve billing-related issues.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with computer-based claims management systems.
- Strong Windows, keyboarding, database, and internet application skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Healthcare billing/claims experience preferred.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
- Knowledge of billing regulations and insurance claim requirements.
- Previous experience in a hospital, clinic, payer, or collection agency preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in healthcare billing or claims management.
- Familiarity with insurance reimbursement processes.
Certifications
- None required; relevant billing or healthcare certifications are a plus.
