Job Description:

  • JOB SUMMARY
    Provide direct patient care and support to surgical patients before, during, and after operative procedures.

    Key Responsibilities
    - Assess patient's physical and psychological condition prior to surgery and develop a plan of care.
    - Administer pre-operative medications and treatments as ordered.
    - Educate patients and families about surgical procedures and post-operative care.
    - Circulate in the operating room, ensuring a safe and sterile environment, and managing necessary supplies and equipment.
    - Assist the surgical team with procedures as needed.
    - Monitor patient's vital signs and condition during the intraoperative phase.
    - Provide post-anesthesia care, monitoring patients as they recover from anesthesia.
    - Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
    - Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the patient's electronic health record.
    - Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.

    Required Qualifications
    - Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
    - Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
    - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

    Experience
    - Minimum of 1-2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
    - Experience in a peri-operative setting is required.

    Certifications
    - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
    - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required depending on patient population.

    Skills
    - Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
    - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    - Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
    - Proficiency in sterile technique.
    - Knowledge of surgical procedures and instruments.
    - Familiarity with anesthesia principles.

    EMR / Systems
    Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems is required.
