  • Job Summary
    The Registered Nurse – Mother/Baby provides compassionate, patient-centered care to mothers and newborns during the postpartum period. This role involves monitoring the health status of both mother and baby, educating families on postnatal care, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective care. The nurse will support patients emotionally and physically, promoting positive health outcomes and facilitating a smooth transition to home care.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Assess and monitor the physical and emotional condition of postpartum mothers and their newborns.
    2. Provide direct nursing care including vital signs, pain management, wound care, and breastfeeding support.
    3. Educate mothers and families on newborn care, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding techniques, and family planning.
    4. Collaborate with physicians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
    5. Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the medical record.
    6. Respond promptly to patient concerns and emergencies in accordance with hospital protocols.
    7. Promote and support breastfeeding as the optimal feeding method for newborns.
    8. Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and HIPAA regulations.
    9. Participate in patient rounds, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
    2. Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing).
    3. Minimum of 1-2 years nursing experience, preferably in mother/baby, postpartum, or related maternal-child health setting.
    4. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    6. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
    2. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
    3. Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
    4. Additional certifications in lactation counseling or maternal-child nursing.

    Certifications
    1. Registered Nurse (RN) license (required).
    2. Basic Life Support (BLS) (required).
    3. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (preferred).
