Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) provides specialized perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgical procedures. This role requires advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and collaboration with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care before, during, and after cardiovascular surgical procedures
- Assist surgeons and anesthesia providers during complex cardiovascular operations
- Monitor patient status and respond promptly to changes in condition
- Prepare, maintain, and operate specialized surgical equipment and instruments
- Ensure adherence to AORN standards, infection control, and hospital safety protocols
- Document patient care accurately in electronic medical records
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and postoperative care
- Collaborate with surgical team members to coordinate patient care and optimize outcomes
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license (state-specific or compact license)
- Minimum of 2 year of perioperative nursing experience, preferably in cardiovascular or thoracic surgery
- Strong knowledge of cardiovascular operating room practices and protocols
- Ability to work effectively in high-stress, fast-paced surgical environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Prior experience in Level 1 trauma or tertiary care centers
- CNOR certification
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
- CNOR certification preferred

- Associate Degree in Nursing (Required)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Preferred)
