Job Summary
We are seeking a Specialty Pharmacist to serve as the liaison between the specialty pharmacy, specialty clinics, and patients. The pharmacist will maintain competency in pediatric specialty drug therapy and provide leadership in directing clinical-related specialty pharmacy activities and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and timely specialty pharmacy services for patients with complex medication needs
- Monitor clinical practice in accordance with Client policy, accrediting agency standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Deliver safe and effective specialty pharmacotherapy in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and caregivers
- Refer patients for enrollment in other Client Pharmacy services when applicable
- Complete patient documentation in compliance with Client policy
- Apply knowledge of URAC, Joint Commission Accreditation Standards, and State Pharmacy Regulations
- Communicate effectively to support interdisciplinary patient care
- Provide drug information and education to clinic staff, patients, families, and pharmacy staff
- Train and orient new specialty pharmacy staff, including prior authorizations and financial assistance program enrollment
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns to ensure accurate preparation and distribution of medications
- Participate in departmental process improvement initiatives
- Manage enrollment and onboarding of new specialty pharmacy patients
- Initiate and oversee prior authorization processes for specialty prescriptions
- Assume oversight of specialty medication management within designated practice areas
- Support daily clinic operations, including patient visits, calls, and serving as a drug information resource
- Address clinical and drug access questions, providing feedback to management on process improvements
- Contribute to the expansion of specialty and ambulatory pharmacy services
- Precept pharmacy students, interns, and residents as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by Specialty Pharmacy Management
Required Qualifications
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to provide care appropriate to neonate, child, and adolescent populations
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, and personal computers
Certifications (if any)
- Current pharmacist licensure (state-specific)
- Additional specialty pharmacy certifications preferred
