Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Sterile Processing Coordinator to oversee the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). The coordinator will supervise sterile processing technicians, ensure compliance with all ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), and internal SOPs, and maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency in the decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise sterile processing technicians and coordinate shift assignments to ensure adequate staffing, workflow, and productivity.
- Monitor and oversee all aspects of decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensure full compliance with ANSI/AAMI standards, IFUs, and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform and review quality assurance audits to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- Train, mentor, and support SPD staff in developing technical skills and maintaining professional competencies.
- Manage and coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting with internal maintenance teams.
- Collaborate with site leadership on timekeeping, scheduling, and achievement of operational goals.
- Work closely with clinical departments to ensure timely availability and delivery of sterile instruments and sets.
- Promote safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance throughout all SPD operations.
- Address and resolve customer service feedback and operational concerns promptly and effectively.
- Assist in inventory management and reorder processes to maintain adequate supplies.
- Support continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives and monitor department key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide direct supervision of all sterile processing staff during assigned shifts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in sterile processing or related field.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- In-depth understanding of sterile processing workflows and infection control principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree or three-plus years of leadership experience in sterile processing or healthcare operations.
- Experience coordinating staff schedules, audits, and process improvement initiatives.
Certifications
- Required: Certification in Sterile Processing (CRCST)
- Preferred: Certification in Sterile Processing (CIS) and/or Healthcare Leadership Certification (HSPA-CHL)
