Position Overview
The Dental Hygienist provides preventive oral care and patient education to support overall dental health. This role works closely with dentists and other dental professionals to deliver high-quality care, perform routine cleanings, and assist in identifying oral health concerns. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, detail-oriented, and committed to promoting oral hygiene and wellness.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform dental cleanings, scaling, and polishing to remove plaque, tartar, and stains.
- Conduct oral health assessments and chart patient conditions.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays).
- Apply preventive treatments such as sealants and fluoride.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, nutrition, and preventive care.
- Assist dentists during examinations and procedures as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with infection control and sterilization protocols.
- Support patient comfort and safety throughout procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
Qualifications
- Current Dental Hygienist license.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.
- Strong knowledge of dental instruments, radiography, and preventive care techniques.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a dental practice or clinical setting.
- Familiarity with electronic dental records (EDR) systems.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations.
