  • Job Summary
    The Registrar is responsible for coordinating and completing patient registration activities, including emergency, outpatient, and admission registrations. This role collects and verifies patient demographic and insurance information, obtains authorizations, collects patient payments, ensures compliance with healthcare regulations, maintains accurate documentation, and delivers exceptional customer service while supporting efficient patient access operations.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Complete accurate and timely patient registrations for emergency, outpatient, and inpatient services.
    • Collect and verify patient demographic, insurance, and billing information.
    • Obtain insurance eligibility, benefits, and required authorizations.
    • Collect copayments, deductibles, and other applicable patient payments.
    • Complete all required registration forms accurately and obtain patient signatures when applicable.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations and registration requirements.
    • Maintain accurate documentation to support billing and reporting requirements.
    • Answer patient billing questions or refer patients to appropriate financial resources.
    • Troubleshoot insurance-related issues and communicate benefit information to clinical staff.
    • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication.
    • Work collaboratively with physicians, clinical staff, and other departments.
    • Answer telephone calls professionally and provide accurate information or direct calls appropriately.
    • Maintain adequate inventory of registration forms and department supplies.
    • Participate in problem-solving activities to support revenue cycle and customer satisfaction goals.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital admitting, patient registration, or physician office setting.
    • Knowledge of private, government, workers' compensation, and third-party insurance plans.
    • Experience verifying insurance eligibility and obtaining authorizations.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Understanding of healthcare regulations related to patient registration.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in maintaining accurate patient and billing records.
