Job Summary
The Psychiatric Registered Nurse provides compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with mental health conditions. This role involves assessing patient needs, developing individualized care plans, administering treatments, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to promote recovery and well-being in a safe therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for psychiatric patients.
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient responses.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, treatment plans, and coping strategies.
- Document patient care activities accurately in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute to care planning.
- Ensure patient safety by monitoring behavior, environment, and adherence to protocols.
- Support therapeutic activities and group sessions as directed.
- Maintain professional boundaries and uphold ethical standards of psychiatric nursing practice.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Strong communication, assessment, and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in inpatient psychiatric units or behavioral health facilities.
- Training in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMHN-BC) (preferred).
