Job Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood collection procedures with a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and compassion. This role requires the ability to work independently, interact effectively with patients of all ages, and ensure proper specimen handling and processing. The Phlebotomist will play a key role in supporting diagnostic testing and maintaining quality standards in a patient-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures safely and efficiently.
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and processing of specimens in accordance with laboratory standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area following safety and infection control protocols.
- Provide excellent patient care while collecting specimens, ensuring comfort and professionalism.
- Learn and assist with specimen processing and pediatric phlebotomy procedures as needed.
- Work independently while managing time effectively to meet daily operational needs.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and healthcare professionals regarding specimen collection or patient issues.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
- Phlebotomy certification (CPT, RPT, or equivalent) from a recognized certifying agency.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and patient interaction skills.
- Reliable transportation and ability to commute to a site accessible by public transportation only.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior pediatric phlebotomy experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience in specimen processing and handling laboratory workflows.
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic health records (EHR).
Certifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent – Required
- CPR/BLS Certification – Preferred
