JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse PCU Float provides high-quality nursing care across multiple Progressive Care Units (PCUs) within a hospital system. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and strong clinical skills to manage patients with complex medical conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, and post-operative needs. The RN Float supports units with varying acuity levels and ensures continuity of care by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and responding promptly to changes in patient conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver patient care in various PCU/stepdown units as assigned
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and other vital signs
- Start IVs and administer medications per physician orders
- Respond to changes in patient condition with appropriate interventions
- Document care accurately using electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic)
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and support staff to ensure comprehensive care
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and discharge instructions
- Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity based on staffing needs
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in PCU or stepdown nursing
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and IV therapy
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), preferably Epic
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel nursing or float pool experience
- Experience in cardiac or respiratory care units
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
