Job Summary
The Medical Lab Scientist III is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory testing procedures to support quality patient care. This role involves determining specimen acceptability, operating and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation, preparing and evaluating reagents, and reporting accurate test results. The scientist ensures compliance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintains quality control standards, and assists with specimen processing as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures following departmental SOPs.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
- Report accurate and timely test results to support patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Assist with specimen processing when required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent meeting CLIA and State requirements.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
- State Medical Technologist license (required).
- ASCP or AMT certification (required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced laboratory instrumentation and troubleshooting.
- Strong background in quality assurance and compliance.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
