Job Summary
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse provides specialized care for patients with life-threatening conditions or complex comorbidities requiring advanced organ support and invasive monitoring. This role demands critical thinking, strong clinical knowledge, and the ability to respond quickly in a high-acuity environment. The ICU RN cares for patients with diverse conditions, including overdose, trauma, post-surgical recovery, and chronic illness.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, invasive lines, and organ support systems
- Administer medications and therapies, including advanced interventions
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
- Respond rapidly to emergencies and provide life-saving interventions
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and recovery processes
- Utilize electronic charting systems (EPIC) for documentation and communication
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Current RN License (state-specific or compact license)
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Prior experience in trauma or surgical ICU settings
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support, American Heart Association)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
