Job Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The RN ensures a sterile and safe environment in the OR, collaborates closely with surgeons and surgical teams, and supports optimal patient outcomes through expert clinical skills and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist surgeons during operative procedures by handling instruments, controlling bleeding, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Monitor patient condition throughout the surgical process, including anesthesia monitoring and vital signs.
- Ensure adherence to sterile technique and infection control protocols.
- Maintain accurate surgical documentation and patient records using electronic charting systems.
- Provide post-operative care and education to patients and families as needed.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary surgical and support teams to ensure safe and efficient case flow.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum 1 year of operating room or perioperative nursing experience
- Strong understanding of surgical asepsis and sterile techniques
- Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) certification
- Experience in a high-volume surgical center or hospital operating room
Certifications
