Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Step Down provides specialized nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care to a lower acuity setting. This role involves close monitoring, individualized bedside care, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure safe recovery and continuity of treatment for pre- and post-surgical patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in consultation with healthcare professionals.
- Provide direct and individualized bedside nursing care to patients recovering from surgery or critical illness.
- Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medications accurately.
- Perform clinical procedures including changing dressings, inserting catheters, and initiating IV therapy.
- Monitor patient status and promptly report changes to the medical team.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support patient recovery and safe discharge planning.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced step-down unit environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Prior experience in a step-down or progressive care unit.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Training in post-surgical recovery and transitional care.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- COVID-19 vaccination card required.
