Job Summary
The Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR) provides specialized nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role ensures patient safety, maintains sterile technique, and collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to deliver high-quality perioperative care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ physical and emotional status prior to surgery.
- Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure compliance with infection control standards.
- Assist the surgical team during procedures by monitoring patient status and anticipating needs.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Document patient care activities accurately in electronic medical records.
- Provide post-operative care and education to patients and families.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Respond to surgical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in State.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and sterile technique.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- BSN degree.
- Experience in specialized surgical procedures (orthopedic, cardiovascular, neurosurgery, etc.).
- Prior experience in circulating and scrub nurse roles.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred.
- Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) – preferred.
