  • Job Summary  
    The Orthopedic Technologist assists orthopedic physicians and physician assistants in providing patient care, including casting, splinting, and managing orthopedic devices. This role supports patient intake, documentation, and clinical procedures while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and scope of practice. The technologist also educates patients and families, manages patient flow, and provides administrative support for surgical documentation and durable medical equipment (DME) processing.

    Key Responsibilities
    1. Assist physicians/PA with patient care including casting, splinting, and care of orthopedic devices.
    2. Demonstrate compliance with Code of Conduct and hospital policies.
    3. Anticipate physician needs and prepare supplies for procedures.
    4. Maintain orderly, stocked treatment areas and exam rooms.
    5. Assist with room turnover and supply management.
    6. Apply orthopedic devices (casts, splints, braces) for patients of all ages.
    7. Perform suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and schedule tests.
    8. Document nurse notes, medication refills, and patient history in charts.
    9. Support patient flow and manage intake/rooming.
    10. Collect and prepare documentation for surgery, orders, and consents.
    11. Prepare surgery charts and scan patient records.
    12. Process DME applications when coordinator is unavailable.
    13. Stay current with new techniques and equipment through continuing education.
    14. Provide cross-coverage and serve as a resource to staff and administration.
    15. Respond to patient communications via phone or email.
    16. Emphasize direct outpatient care in coordination with physicians, mid-level practitioners, and administrative staff.
    17. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    1. High school diploma, GED, or higher-level degree .
    2. Orthopedic Technologist Certification.
    3. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    4. Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Prior orthopedic experience in a clinical setting.
