Job Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician provides immediate, high-quality pre-hospital care to patients experiencing medical emergencies. EMTs respond to emergency calls, assess patient conditions, administer basic life support, and safely transport patients to medical facilities. This role requires strong clinical skills, quick decision-making, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls and provide pre-hospital care to patients
- Assess patient conditions and determine appropriate interventions
- Administer basic life support including CPR, AED use, and airway management
- Transport patients safely to hospitals or medical facilities
- Document patient care accurately in patient care reports and ensure compliance with protocols
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and vehicle readiness for emergency response
- Collaborate with healthcare teams including physicians, nurses, and paramedics
- Provide patient and family support during stressful emergency situations
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited EMT training program
- Current state EMT certification/license
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Ability to lift and move patients and equipment (up to 50 lbs)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in emergency medical services or healthcare settings
- Advanced certifications (e.g., EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Paramedic)
- Familiarity with local emergency response protocols
Certifications
- CPR/BLS required
- State EMT license required
- Advanced EMT or Paramedic certification preferred
