Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Emergency Department provides compassionate, high-quality care to infants, children, and adolescents presenting with urgent or emergent medical conditions. This role is responsible for assessing, triaging, and treating pediatric patients in a fast-paced emergency setting, while collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rapid assessments and triage of pediatric patients based on acuity and medical need.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and assist with emergency procedures as ordered by physicians.
- Monitor and interpret patient vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and clinical status for changes requiring immediate attention.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and families during emergency care situations.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training and emergency simulations to maintain readiness for critical situations.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of emergency or pediatric nursing experience.
- Strong clinical judgment, multitasking ability, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Experience in a Pediatric Emergency Department or Level I Trauma Center.
- Familiarity with pediatric triage systems and emergency protocols.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) – preferred.
