JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse CVICU provides specialized, high-acuity care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, including those recovering from open-heart surgery, heart transplants, and other major cardiac procedures. Working in a fast-paced, technologically advanced environment, the CVICU nurse collaborates with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care. This role demands advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to respond rapidly to changes in patient status.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess cardiovascular patients in the intensive care unit
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and advanced cardiac treatments
- Interpret and respond to cardiac rhythms and hemodynamic data
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced cardiac equipment (e.g., intra-aortic balloon pumps, ventricular assist devices)
- Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams
- Educate patients and families on cardiac care and recovery
- Document patient care accurately and maintain medical records
- Respond rapidly to emergencies and changes in patient condition
- Participate in care planning and interdisciplinary rounds
- Maintain strict infection control and patient safety protocols
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Minimum 1-2 years of critical care or cardiovascular nursing experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Strong knowledge of cardiac medications and interventions
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with intra-aortic balloon pumps, ECMO, or ventricular assist devices
- Familiarity with Epic or other electronic health record systems

- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
