JOB SUMMARY
Provide general Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) evaluations and treatments for adult and pediatric patients, impacting their functional abilities. Services are provided in compliance with hospital standards, Joint Commission Home Health regulations, Alaska state licensure requirements, and national professional guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
• Perform patient assessments, evaluations, and establish plans of care with therapeutic interventions for a wide range of ages and diagnoses.
• Inform clinical teams regarding decisions involving SLP therapy, consulting with other care providers.
• Make recommendations regarding patient independence and rehabilitation needs.
• Contribute to program development, quality improvement, problem-solving, and productivity enhancement in an interdisciplinary fashion.
• Document and process interventions appropriately for continuity of care and reimbursement.
• Work in various settings including inpatient, outpatient, home health, and long-term care.
• Implement, supervise, and modify therapy plans of care based on patient response.
• Review clinical records and case histories.
• Attend care conferences, meetings, and rounds; maintain contact with referring providers, nurses, and other rehabilitation professionals.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate medical equipment and care plans are established prior to discharge.
• Document patient encounters, findings, treatments, diagnoses, treatment plans, recommendations, and prognoses.
• Provide services in a timely manner after referral.
• Direct the work of support staff, students, or interns.
• Develop, implement, and conduct patient education and therapy programs.
• Provide home exercise programs to patients and families, ensuring understanding and sensitivity to cross-cultural issues.
• Provide therapy services in community health programs and the community at large.
• Participate in project or health promotion teams.
• Utilize hospital computer systems for patient information and hospital directives.
• Assist in administrative matters, clinic operations, and specialty/research areas.
• Assist with acquisition and fit of durable medical equipment/devices.
• Maintain supply stocks and clinical areas.
• Remain current in billing procedures/mechanisms for reimbursement.
• Maintain cleanliness of clinical space.
• Educate staff on SLP issues and patients/families on therapeutic exercises, activities, and equipment.
• Participate in committee and management duties as requested.
• Provide therapy consultation and presentations to medical staff and interdisciplinary healthcare personnel.
• Participate in clinical education and in-service activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program.
• CCC-SLP.
• Licensed by the State of Alaska in the field of Speech Language Pathology.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Pediatrics experience required.
• Outpatient experience required.
• Flu vaccine required.
• AK License required at time of submittal.
