Job Summary:
The Occupational Registered Nurse provides nursing assessments, treatment, and medical recommendations for employees experiencing illness or injury, within the RN scope of practice. This role is responsible for evaluating conditions, documenting findings, implementing treatment plans, supporting emergency response and case management processes, and promoting workplace health and safety programs while ensuring compliance with regulatory and confidentiality requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing assessments, take vital signs, evaluate injuries/illnesses, and perform medical interventions within RN scope of practice
- Document and maintain employee treatment records in compliance with regulatory requirements and privacy standards
- Support the site’s medical Emergency Response Program
- Guide employees through the disability process and coordinate with insurance carriers, benefits, workers’ compensation, safety teams, and company medical providers
- Ensure effective case management for work-related injuries and illnesses
- Support absence management using the PIIM (Post Injury and Illness Management) program to enable safe and early return to work with accommodations
- Assist with tracking and managing FMLA requests in accordance with medical information and legal/company protocols
- Perform required regulatory surveillance exams as mandated by occupational health standards
- Participate in company Health and Safety initiatives such as wellness programs, flu shots, blood drives, smoking cessation, and fitness programs
- Participate in pandemic preparedness planning
- Coordinate with external occupational medical providers as needed
- Manage and maintain medical inventory
Required Skills:
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Effective documentation and case management ability
- Minimum 5+ years of Registered Nurse experience required
- Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Electronic Medical Records
- Knowledge of occupational health regulations and confidentiality practices
- Ability to respond to medical emergencies and workplace health incidents
Preferred Skills:
- Creative approach to promoting health and safety initiatives
- Occupational Health experience preferred
- Experience working in manufacturing or corporate health environments
- Emergency Room, ICU, or Medical/Surgical nursing experience
Certifications:
Active and current Registered Nurse state license
Current CPR certification
COHN or COHN-S (Certified Occupational Health Nurse) preferred
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
