  • Job Summary
    The Radiology Technologist – Interventional Radiology (IR) Lab is responsible for providing technical and patient care support during minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role operates radiologic imaging equipment, assists physicians during interventional procedures, maintains patient safety, and ensures compliance with radiation protection standards and departmental protocols. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    Patient Care & Procedure Support
    1. Prepare patients for interventional radiology procedures by explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns.
    2. Verify patient identity, procedure orders, and informed consent documentation.
    3. Assist physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals during interventional and vascular procedures.
    4. Monitor patient condition and provide support before, during, and after procedures.
    5. Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy throughout the imaging and intervention process.
    6. Imaging & Equipment Operation
    7. Operate radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
    8. Position patients appropriately to achieve optimal imaging results while minimizing radiation exposure.
    9. Assist with image acquisition, documentation, and storage within the hospital's imaging systems.
    10. Perform quality assurance checks on imaging equipment and report malfunctions promptly.
    11. Maintain a clean, organized, and procedure-ready work environment.

    Interventional Radiology Support
    • Assist with a variety of interventional procedures, including vascular, diagnostic, and therapeutic interventions.
    • Prepare procedure rooms, instruments, supplies, and imaging equipment.
    • Maintain sterile fields and adhere to aseptic techniques during procedures.
    • Handle and document contrast media according to departmental protocols.
    • Assist in emergency procedures and respond appropriately to urgent patient care situations.
    • Safety & Compliance
    • Adhere to all radiation safety standards and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
    • Follow infection prevention and control policies.
    • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and accreditation requirements.
    • Accurately document patient information, procedure details, and imaging records.
    • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

    Collaboration & Communication
    • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
    • Communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare personnel.
    • Assist in training and mentoring new staff and students as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
    • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Current state Radiologic Technologist license, if required by state regulations.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Experience operating radiologic and fluoroscopic imaging equipment.
    • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiographic positioning.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and respond effectively during emergency situations.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and patient care skills.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous Interventional Radiology (IR), Cardiac Catheterization Lab, or Special Procedures experience.
    • Advanced certification in Vascular Interventional Radiography [ARRT (VI)].
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
    • Experience with PACS, RIS, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
    • Experience in a hospital or acute care setting.

    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
    • Ability to assist with patient transfers and positioning.
    • Frequently lift, move, push, or pull equipment and supplies in accordance with department requirements.
    • Ability to wear lead protective equipment for prolonged periods during procedures.
    • Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for procedural and imaging tasks.

    Work Environment
    • Hospital-based Interventional Radiology Lab or Imaging Department.
    • Exposure to radiation, bloodborne pathogens, and other healthcare-related hazards.
    • Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
    • May require participation in on-call rotations, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage.

    Certifications (If Any)
    • ARRT Certification (Required)
    • State Radiologic Technologist License (if applicable)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (Preferred)
    • ARRT Vascular Interventional Radiography [VI] Certification (Preferred)
