  • Job Summary
    The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for providing critical nursing care to patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients experiencing a wide variety of health problems, from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions. The role requires expertise in emergency medicine, triage, and the ability to perform under pressure while delivering compassionate and quality care.

    Key Responsibilities
    Essential Responsibilities
    Patient Care & Evaluation:
    • Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients in the ER, providing individualized, high-quality care based on assessment of needs and patient condition.
    • Document patient responses to nursing interventions, prescribed treatments, and changes in physician orders.
    • Assist physicians in patient exams, diagnostic procedures, and emergency treatments.
    • Monitor and record physiological data (e.g., vital signs, lab results), observing for any changes in patient condition and intervening as necessary.
    • Administer prescribed medications, including pain management and emergency drugs, as well as intravenous infusions and blood products.
    • Deliver competent and efficient care during high-pressure situations, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
    • Communicate with patients and families to share the care plan, explain procedures, and provide emotional support.
    • Provide education to patients and families regarding hospital procedures and discharge instructions.
    • Make referrals to specialists or other healthcare providers as necessary.
    • Delegate tasks to nursing support staff as appropriate, ensuring care is delivered efficiently and safely.

    General Responsibilities:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff or management.

    Required Skills & Experience
    Experience:
    • Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
    • Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures, with particular expertise in emergency medicine and triage.
    • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services in the emergency room environment.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, patients, and families.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse range of patients and healthcare team members.
    • Ability to respond to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors in a sensitive and effective manner.
    • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.

    Required Education
    Minimum:
    • Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
    Preferred:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a Board-approved nursing program.
    Required Certifications & Licensure
    Licensure:
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN license (eNLC).
    Certifications:
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
