Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical provides high-quality, compassionate nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. The RN collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and support staff to deliver safe, evidence-based care that promotes healing and patient well-being. This role requires strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with hospital policy.
- Monitor and document patients’ conditions, vital signs, and responses to interventions.
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation in the medical record system.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and quality standards.
- Support and precept new nursing staff or students as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
- Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASN or BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical or acute care experience.
- Strong clinical assessment, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Prior experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Epic or other electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred.
- Specialty certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing (CMSRN) – Preferred.
