Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technologist is a vital member of the Surgery Department, responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sterilization, and proper preparation of surgical instruments and equipment. This full-time role (40 hours per week, 4 days of 10-hour shifts with variable start times and occasional on-call duties) supports surgical operations by maintaining sterile environments and organizing supplies for procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and sterilize all operating room (OR) and departmental instrumentation.
- Clean and test all sterilizers daily to ensure proper function.
- Create pre-packaged instrument sets for specific surgical procedures.
- Set up case carts for scheduled OR cases.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes.
- Assist in turning over rooms between surgical cases.
- Organize and monitor expiration dates on surgical supplies.
- Assist surgical team members with gowning and gloving.
- Support patient positioning and transport from cart to bed and back.
- Stock and maintain adequate surgical supplies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
- Prior experience in a hospital or surgical services department.
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control standards.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Certifications (if any)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Certification in Central Sterile Processing (CRCST or equivalent) – preferred.
