Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU) will provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients recovering from cardiac procedures or surgeries. This role involves assessing, monitoring, and managing patients with cardiac conditions in a step-down or post-acute care environment, with a focus on patient safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care to individuals in the cardiac progressive care unit (CPCU).
- Monitor patients' cardiac status, vital signs, and responses to treatments or procedures.
- Administer medications, including intravenous medications, and manage medication schedules.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to develop and adjust individualized care plans.
- Perform patient assessments and document findings to ensure continuity of care.
- Educate patients and their families on cardiac conditions, treatment plans, and aftercare procedures.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and provide immediate, appropriate interventions.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Provide emotional support and advocacy for patients and their families during recovery.
- Participate in ongoing education and training related to cardiac care best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or step-down unit.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in State or a Compact State RN License.
- Proven ability to assess, monitor, and manage patients with complex cardiac conditions.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, particularly in emergency or high-stress situations.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative healthcare team.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for patient care documentation and family interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and provide optimal care in high-pressure situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a high-acuity cardiac care unit, such as an ICU or step-down unit.
- Experience with advanced cardiac monitoring and telemetry.
Certifications (if any):
- Current certification in ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
- Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support).
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- COVID-19 Vaccination (as required by facility policy).
